Motivation

The Miaoli Branch of the Genesis Social Welfare Foundation has served the local community for many years. As of December 2025, it provides residential care for 63 people in a vegetative state or with severe disabilities. For residents who are unable to move independently, every bath, repositioning, or transfer requires care staff to lift and move them manually. This places considerable demands on staff members’ physical strength and skills, while also exposing residents to the risk of joint strains, muscle pain, and falls. To uphold residents’ dignity by ensuring they are moved gently and steadily, and to reduce occupational injuries among staff, the branch urgently needs an overhead patient lift system to improve the overall quality and safety of care.

Fundraising

Sino-American Silicon Products and GlobalWafers have long promoted ESG and sustainability initiatives. This year marks their fourth consecutive year of support for the Genesis Social Welfare Foundation’s Miaoli Branch. Through a joint contribution from the companies and their employees, NT$300,000 was donated specifically toward the purchase of an overhead patient lift system. On November 26, company executives led a group of employees on a visit to the branch to present the donation. The system will enable care staff to lift, lower, and transfer residents using a simple remote control, making physically demanding care tasks smoother and safer while helping residents feel secure during transfers.

Conclusion

This donation represents more than an equipment upgrade; it reflects respect and care for human life. By helping the branch introduce an overhead patient lift system, we hope to provide residents in a vegetative state with a more dignified care experience while reducing the physical strain and occupational risks faced by frontline caregivers.
