GlobalWafers’ Italian subsidiary, MEMC Electronic Materials S.p.A., has partnered with Italian technology startup Sleep Advice Technologies (SAT) to evaluate innovative digital solutions using wearable technology to further enhance personnel safety in wafer manufacturing operations.

The pilot focuses on testing an integrated solution that combines real-time fall detection, post-fall posture recognition, and location reporting through advanced Garmin wearable devices, supported by dedicated alert and notification procedures. When the system detects an abnormal event, it immediately notifies designated on-site safety personnel and provides the most accurate location information available, enabling a prompt response and appropriate action.

Accurate positioning in industrial environments is a core element of the pilot. The collaboration therefore also evaluates performance in the complex indoor layouts commonly found in advanced manufacturing facilities, particularly in areas where conventional positioning technologies are less effective, to further validate the feasibility of deploying these technologies in actual manufacturing environments.
