GlobalWafers Wins Gold Tower and Silver Tower Awards in the Unity Group Category at the 2024 Taiwan Continuous Improvement Award (TCIA)

GlobalWafers stood out in the 2024 Taiwan Continuous Improvement Award (TCIA), receiving dual honors in the Unity Group category with the Gold Tower Award and the Silver Tower Award for its exceptional teamwork and innovation. GlobalWafers competed with two teams: the “Joint Wafer Selection Team” and the “Liquid Dust-Free Team,” demonstrating remarkable achievements in enhancing SiC production capacity and improving silicon wafer quality, respectively, earning high praise from the judges. This is the third time GlobalWafers has won the Gold Tower Award, highlighting its outstanding performance in innovative management and continuous improvement.

Breaking Through SiC Production Bottlenecks to Win Gold Tower Award

The “Joint Wafer Selection Team” focused on revitalizing old equipment to boost production efficiency. Confronted with the rapidly growing demand for SiC market, the team successfully utilized QC tools and AI systems to integrate resources effectively, significantly improving the SiC yield and alleviating production capacity pressures. These improvements not only enhanced production efficiency but also solidified GlobalWafers’ critical position in the SiC substrate supply chain, strengthening its unique competitive edge in the global market.

GWC Taisil Branch Achieves Silver Tower Award for Defect Reduction

The “Liquid Dust-Free Team” from the GWC Taisil Branch focused on reducing fixed-position defect rates in silicon wafers. By setting clear objectives using SMART Goals and combining the three-question method with doubt-based verification to thoroughly analyze the root causes of the problem, the team implemented multiple measures to achieve standardization. The results were remarkable, achieving a reduction in defect rates by over 90% and a target achievement rate exceeding 140%, generating annual benefits worth tens of millions of NTD for the company.

Under the guidance of the Industrial Development Administration of Economic Affairs, and organized by the Corporate Synergy Development Center, the Taiwan Continuous Improvement Award has been promoted for over 30 years. It stands as the most prestigious improvement competition in Taiwan. This year, a total of 127 companies participated with 246 teams, collectively generating and saving up to NT$16.99 billion in annual benefits. GlobalWafers’ exceptional performance in the competition once again showcases its excellence in process optimization, quality improvement, and innovation breakthroughs. Looking forward, GlobalWafers will continue striving for “zero defects,” upholding the spirit of continuous improvement, refining its technologies, and enhancing competitiveness to create exceptional values for the semiconductor industry.
