GlobalWafers Welcomes Director of the American Institute in Taiwan

Director Sandra Oudkirk of the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) recently met with GlobalWafers Chairwoman Doris Hsu at her office in Hsinchu to discuss the company’s $3.5B silicon wafer manufacturing project in Sherman, Texas. In addition to being on-time and on-target to deliver the first 300-mm silicon wafers to U.S. fabs in Q4 2024, Chairwoman Hsu attributed the project’s ongoing success to GlobalWafers’ local approach and commitment to the U.S. and Texas supply chains. The two discussed how GlobalWafers is purpose-building the facility from the ground-up, using U.S.-based contractors to meet U.S. code, construction protocols and safety requirements and are relying on its highly experienced U.S. management team to oversee the project.

Ms. Hsu expressed appreciation for AIT’s partnership and highlighted the importance of receiving support for this project from the Advanced Manufacturing Investment Credit administered by the U.S. Department of the Treasury and IRS and semiconductor grant funding overseen by the U.S. Department of Commerce, both made possible by the CHIPS and Science Act of 2022. This is another concrete example of the mutually beneficial U.S.-Taiwan trade and investment relationship and the many complementary aspects of the strengths of our two economies. AIT looks forward to continuing to work with GlobalWafers and other world-leading Taiwan enterprises, as well as the plethora of U.S. companies looking to start new or increase existing investments in Taiwan, to deliver results for both of our economies.
