Italy Site: Connecting Classroom Knowledge with Semiconductor Applications Through STEM Education

GlobalWafers’ Italian subsidiary, MEMC Electronic Materials S.p.A., co-hosted Silicon Day with the University of Milano-Bicocca. During the event, employees from ESG, R&D, process engineering, quality assurance laboratories, and field application engineering introduced silicon wafer manufacturing processes, deposition technologies, and semiconductor industry developments to students, professors, and Ph.D. candidates, and shared practical field experience.

Through cross-disciplinary exchange, participants understood the importance of silicon materials in semiconductor applications from an industry perspective, and learned about the roles of R&D, manufacturing, quality management, engineering support, and customer applications in the industry value chain. For students, such exchange helps connect classroom knowledge with industrial applications and serves as a reference for future academic direction and career planning.

Italy Site: Inspiring the Younger Generation to Explore STEM Through Women’s Career Experiences

GlobalWafers’ Italian subsidiary, MEMC Electronic Materials S.p.A., also participated in the International Day of Women and Girls in Science event organized by the University of Piemonte Orientale. The event mainly targeted high school students and was co-promoted by the Municipality of Vercelli, Italy. By bringing together schools, industry, and local community resources, it helped students learn about academic and career possibilities in STEM fields.

During the event, Dr. Maria Cristina Sanna, Quality Assurance and Laboratory Manager at MEMC, was invited to share her academic and career journey in the semiconductor industry. Drawing on her own experience, she explained how professional knowledge, technical training, a rigorous mindset, and continuous learning supported her in building capabilities in microelectronics and semiconductors, and in applying her expertise to quality management and laboratory work. Through the sharing of a female professional, students gained a clearer understanding of STEM careers and saw the diverse possibilities for women to continue building expertise and creating impact in science and technology.

U.S. Site: Connecting Local Resources to Promote Professional Exchange Among Women in STEM

GlobalWafers’ U.S. subsidiary, GlobalWafers America (GWA), hosted a Women in STEM Networking Event, inviting more than 40 local professionals from 11 industries, as well as partners in education, workforce development, and economic development. The event was promoted by the Women in STEM group, which was jointly founded by GWA, the regional workforce board, and local economic development organizations. The group aims to connect women professionals in STEM fields and promote career exchange, experience sharing, and regional collaboration.

During the event, participants exchanged views on career development, leadership development, and cross-organization collaboration. Female employees from GWA also led participants on a site tour, introducing their work, the Company’s manufacturing processes, and career opportunities in the semiconductor industry. Through first-hand sharing from frontline employees, participants gained deeper insight into semiconductor manufacturing sites and saw how women can extend their STEM expertise to engineering, manufacturing, operations, and industry collaboration, building expertise and creating impact in the technology industry.

Starting From Local Action to Cultivate the Next Generation of Technology Talent

From Silicon Day and the International Day of Women and Girls in Science in Italy to the Women in STEM Networking Event in the United States, GlobalWafers’ sites promote different forms of STEM education and career exchange activities based on local educational and industrial environments. These efforts not only help students gain exposure to science and the semiconductor industry, but also encourage the younger generation to see the diverse possibilities of technology careers through the participation and sharing of women professionals.
