GlobalWafers Advances Green Manufacturing through Crystal Growth Pump Upgrades and Improved Energy Efficiency

GlobalWafers continues to advance green manufacturing by improving production equipment and integrating sustainability into its daily operations. Recently, the Company launched a pump system upgrade for its crystal growth equipment, gradually replacing conventional oil pumps with dry pumps. The transition not only improves energy efficiency but also reduces oil consumption and waste generation, further enhancing the environmental performance of its manufacturing processes.

Conventional oil pumps rely on oil-sealing mechanisms and require oil for operation as well as regular oil replacement, resulting in additional maintenance and waste oil disposal requirements. To further reduce energy and consumable use associated with equipment operation, GlobalWafers has introduced oil-free dry pumps to replace conventional oil-sealed systems. While meeting the operational requirements of the crystal growth process, this equipment upgrade helps reduce both energy and resource consumption.

The project has already been implemented on selected crystal growth equipment. Actual operating results demonstrate tangible benefits in energy efficiency, waste reduction, and equipment maintenance:

  • Improved energy efficiency: Compared with conventional oil pumps, each crystal growth unit can reduce electricity consumption by approximately 29%, equivalent to annual savings of approximately 30,718 kWh.
  • Reduced consumables and waste: The oil-free design eliminates the need for pump oil, reducing waste oil generation by approximately 0.11 metric tons per unit per year.
  • Lower carbon emissions: Based on Taiwan’s electricity emission factor, each unit can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 14.3 metric tons per year.
  • Optimized equipment maintenance: Eliminating the need for regular oil replacement helps simplify maintenance procedures and improve equipment management efficiency.

GlobalWafers will continue to identify opportunities for process optimization and equipment upgrades, implementing practical improvement measures to enhance energy and resource efficiency. Through these efforts, the Company remains committed to advancing green manufacturing and progressing toward its goals of low-carbon operations and sustainable development.
