Newsletter – GlobalWafers Receives Hsinchu Science Park’s R&D Achievement Award, Demonstrating Technological Innovation and Industry Leadership

GlobalWafers has long placed technological innovation and the advancement of research and development at the heart of its growth strategy. The company continues to invest in critical materials and process technologies while strengthening its intellectual property portfolio and cultivating talent. Building on years of research achievements and a proven track record of innovation, GlobalWafers received Hsinchu Science Park’s R&D Achievement Award as the sole corporate recipient this year. In recent years, the company has further increased its R&D investment, focusing on advanced materials and technologies, including third-generation semiconductors such as silicon carbide (SiC) and gallium nitride (GaN). This recognition affirms GlobalWafers’ research achievements in advanced materials and underscores its commitment to sustained R&D investment and industrial advancement.

GlobalWafers continues to invest in materials and process technologies for third-generation semiconductors, strengthening its manufacturing capabilities and supply reliability for SiC and GaN products to meet the demand for advanced materials in high-power and high-efficiency applications. Through the in-house development and continuous optimization of critical process technologies, the company is advancing process maturity and mass-production capabilities for SiC products while gradually expanding its product portfolio in line with market demand. In GaN, GlobalWafers has established a product line capable of supporting supply at scale and continues to work with customers on product qualification and adoption. These products have received positive market feedback for their performance and quality. Through consistent R&D investment and process optimization, GlobalWafers continues to strengthen its pivotal role in the global semiconductor supply chain and support ongoing industry advancement.

In recent years, GlobalWafers has continued to build on research achievements at its Hsinchu and Zhunan plants, securing patents in critical process and materials technologies. Its overall patent portfolio centers on third-generation semiconductor technologies, creating comprehensive technological barriers to entry. The company has implemented the Taiwan Intellectual Property Management System (TIPS) for 13 years and has achieved AA-level certification five consecutive times. TIPS certification reinforces the systematic management of intellectual property acquisition, protection, and utilization, while helping translate research outcomes into strategic patent protection or trade secret safeguards, thereby enhancing corporate competitiveness. The implementation and continuous refinement of TIPS played an important role in demonstrating the company’s R&D capabilities and earning recognition from external evaluators in connection with this award.

GlobalWafers places a high priority on cultivating and developing R&D talent. Internally, the company continues to expand its research teams at key R&D locations and recruit highly qualified specialists to deepen its expertise in advanced materials and process technologies. Externally, it continues to participate in government-funded programs and industry–academia collaborations, supporting industry supply chain development and helping talent transition from academia into industry. These efforts demonstrate the company’s achievements in connecting academic research with industrial practice and developing talent for the semiconductor sector.

Looking ahead, GlobalWafers will continue to place technological R&D at the core of its strategy, advancing high-performance and energy-efficient process technologies to support diverse applications, including electric vehicles, 5G, and AI. Through strategic patent development and industry–academia collaboration, the company will further strengthen its technological expertise and capacity for innovation. GlobalWafers will continue to apply its R&D strengths to steadily advance materials and process technologies, helping customers improve product performance and supply reliability while serving as a key, dependable partner in the global semiconductor value chain.
