GlobalWafers Co., Ltd. (6488) (GlobalWafers) and renewable energy provider Sustainable Energy Solution (SES) today announced that their board of directors has approved the signing of a renewable energy power purchase agreement (PPA) for offshore wind power. This cooperation involves a capacity of 15.5 MW with a contract term of 30 years, and the total estimated power supply is approximately 2 billion kWh, demonstrating GlobalWafers’ determination to take concrete actions to fulfill its RE100 goals. “Susen Green Energy Co., Ltd.” (SGE), a subsidiary of Sino-American Silicon Products Group, serves as a comprehensive renewable energy platform covering a full range of green power services, from development and power sales to energy storage and energy-saving measures, establishing an integrated renewable energy ecosystem. SES, a subsidiary under SGE, focuses on diversified renewable energy development and faciliating green power procurement demands, offering comprehensive low-carbon solutions. SES is committed to promoting Taiwan’s green energy transition and possesses deep technical expertise and market experience in offshore wind and solar power, making it the preferred partner for enterprises adopting renewable energy contracts. Leveraging years of practical manufacturing industry experience and policy understanding, SES not only provides comprehensive renewable energy solutions but also tailors optimized renewable energy layouts for large manufacturers, technology industry, and small to medium enterprises based on their electricity consumption patterns and sustainability goals.
According to the contract, SES will supply GlobalWafers with approximately 66 million kWh of green electricity annually. Based on an average household annual electricity consumption of 3,600 kWh, this is equivalent to the electricity demand of more than 18,000 households for a full year. Over the 30-year contract period, the total carbon reduction is estimated at approximately 988,000 metric tons of CO2, equivalent to the annual carbon sequestration of 2,566 Daan Forest Parks. Amid the global semiconductor industry’s accelerating transition toward net-zero, increasing the share of renewable energy use has become a key threshold for companies to join the international supply chain. Offshore wind provides stable electricity supply during nighttime or non-sunny periods. This long-term procurement not only strengthens GlobalWafers’ renewable energy composition but also meets the company’s needs for increasing renewable energy usage rate and ensuring stable power supply. This cooperation represents a significant advancement for GlobalWafers in integrating renewable energy into its manufacturing processes. Leveraging SES’s capabilities in green power development and professional services supports the semiconductor industry’s substantial electricity demand and accelerating to build a green supply chain.
SGE is dedicated to building a comprehensive renewable energy platform encompassing green power development, power sales, energy storage, and energy-saving services. Leveraging its deep understanding of the semiconductor and manufacturing industries’ needs, SGE delivers complete green energy solutions. SGE’s subsidiary, SES, offers diverse renewable energy development, fconnecting buyers and sellers, and services such as power purchase agreements (PPA) and renewable energy certificates (RECs) to support companies in achieving their carbon reduction goals. Beyond assisting existing clients in reducing carbon emissions, SES actively supports the group companies in achieving its RE100 target, becoming a key bridge connecting renewable energy and semiconductor applications.
GlobalWafers is one of the world’s top three semiconductor wafer manufacturers, with operations spanning Asia, Europe, and the Americas. As a key player of the high-tech industry supply chain, the company actively adopts renewable energy and low-carbon solutions to meet the high ESG expectations of customers worldwide. GlobalWafers officially joined the RE100 initiative in 2022 and announced in 2025 that it would accelerate renewable energy usage by advancing the goal of 100% across its global sites from 2050 to 2040. At the same time, it pledges to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050 following the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). This long-term green power procurement demonstrates GlobalWafers’ role as a trusted supply chain partner and reflects the company’s proactive efforts in promoting environmental sustainability.
