Hsinchu, Taiwan, December 9, 2024 – GlobalWafers has been recognized for its outstanding sustainability practices and corporate governance, winning the “Taiwan Top 100 Sustainable Model Companies Award” and “Corporate Sustainability Report – Silver Award” at the 2024 Taiwan Corporate Sustainability Awards (TCSA). This marks GlobalWafers’ third consecutive year of receiving these honors, which affirm the Company’s continuous and unwavering efforts in the areas of environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) sustainability.
Each year, the Taiwan Institute for Sustainable Energy (TAISE) selects exemplary companies based on their sustainability vision and strategies, corporate governance, financial performance, climate governance and energy management, environmental sustainability, and social inclusion. GlobalWafers has been recognized for its exceptional ESG performance and was awarded the “Taiwan Top 100 Sustainable Model Companies Award.” Besides, the Company’s sustainability report stood out in the electronics manufacturing industry for its comprehensive and transparent information disclosure, earning the “Sustainability Report –Silver Award,” further solidifying its commitment to green sustainability.
In the face of global climate change challenges, GlobalWafers is dedicated to promoting green manufacturing and integrating sustainability into its business operations. GlobalWafers continues to develop green technologies and energy-saving projects, including the implementation of the ISO 50001 Energy Management System. The Company focuses on reducing energy consumption in the most energy-intensive part of the wafer production process, developing the “Crystal Puller Energy-saving Heating Design,” which significantly reduces process energy consumption. By executing various energy-saving and carbon-reduction initiatives, GlobalWafers reduced its electricity consumption per unit by 8.17% in 2023 compared to the baseline year of 2019. Furthermore, GlobalWafers officially joined the global renewable energy initiative RE100 in 2022, committing that all subsidiaries will achieve 100% renewable energy usage by 2050. The Company plans to increase its use of green energy through initiatives such as building solar power facilities, signing power purchase agreements, and purchasing renewable energy certificates, etc. Meanwhile, GlobalWafers’ new expansions have integrated energy-saving equipment and solutions during construction and will be actively using renewable energy. For example, GlobalWafers’ Danish site has built a 10 MW solar park next to its plant in 2024, which is expected to connect to the local power grid in early 2025, becoming the first within the group to achieve the RE100 green promise. Also, the 12” new line of GlobalWafers’ Italian site and the greenfield expansion in the United States are expected to reach 100% renewable energy usage during the capacity ramp-up stage, realizing GlobalWafers’ commitment to environmental protection.
GlobalWafers adheres to the philosophy of “Caring for Society and Sustainable Development” and is dedicated to fulfilling its social responsibilities relentlessly. In addition to sustained donations to various charitable projects supporting rural and disadvantaged communities, the Company is committed to sustainable environmental initiatives, youth talent development in science and technology, and cultural and arts promotion. GlobalWafers’ sites worldwide actively participate in public welfare programs, such as the Taiwan sites’ fundraising efforts to support earthquake reconstruction in Hualien, the U.S. site’s Christmas gift donation for disadvantaged families, the Japanese sites continue to devote themselves to environmental activities to clean up garbage in the natural environment. It also displays silicon wafers and other materials in public institutions across local communities to spread scientific and technological knowledge to the public in an easy-to-understand way. the Italian site’s donation to the Red Cross to support global humanitarian efforts, and its fundraising campaign for the Italian Women Against Violence Association. The Korean site also collaborated with local children’s welfare organizations to host a kimchi-making charity event. These efforts demonstrate the Company’s mission to spread love and responsibility across the world, showcasing a strong commitment to creating social values.
As a model of corporate governance, GlobalWafers upholds integrity, transparency, and diversity as core principles and has ranked in the Top 5% among TPEx-listed companies in the Corporate Governance Evaluation for six consecutive years. The board composition includes one-third female directors and an independent director ratio of 50%, reflecting a governance structure that emphasizes both diversity and professionalism, laying a solid foundation for the Company’s long-term and stable development. Additionally, GlobalWafers held its first online Supplier Day in October, attracting over 100 supplier partners, where the Company pledged to jointly take responsibility and work together to build a green semiconductor ecosystem.
