Amid the rapid evolution of the semiconductor industry and the growing challenge of an aging workforce, GlobalWafers remains firmly committed to its core values of being people oriented, acting with integrity, demonstrating passion, striving for excellence, and pursuing innovation. The Company regards its employees as the cornerstone of long term development and continues to strengthen workplace safety, health, and career development through institutionalized management and the integration of advanced technologies. These efforts reflect GlobalWafers’ long standing commitment to the Social dimension of ESG. This sustained and systematic approach has translated into tangible outcomes. Chung-Jung Huang, Vice President of Manufacturing at GlobalWafers’ Taisil branch, was honored by Taiwan’s Ministry of Labor with the Friendly Employment Excellence Award for Outstanding Promotion. The recognition acknowledges his long term dedication and concrete achievements in advancing age friendly employment, enhancing workplace safety, and implementing ergonomic improvements across manufacturing operations.
Under this vision, the manufacturing team led by Vice President Chung-Jung Huang has consistently focused on workplace safety, human factors engineering, and the promotion of employment opportunities for middle aged and senior employees. Over recent years, the team has accumulated a series of notable accomplishments. In 2023, the team received the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s Ergonomic Hazard Prevention Best Practice Award, recognizing its success in reducing musculoskeletal injury risks among frontline workers, improving high risk operational processes, and systematically integrating ergonomic principles into daily operations. In 2024, the team was further recognized by the Workforce Development Agency with the Golden Employment Award for Job Redesign, honoring its efforts to support stable employment and continued career development for senior employees through thoughtful job redesign. In 2025, the Friendly Employment Excellence Award for Outstanding Promotion further highlighted the team’s long term impact and leadership in fostering a friendly and inclusive workplace.
In practical implementation, GlobalWafers established structured mechanisms for continuous improvement and job redesign, encouraging frontline employees to actively participate in process optimization, safety enhancement, and work design adjustments. This approach effectively transforms hands on operational experience into institutionalized and replicable improvement outcomes. At the operational level, Poka Yoke mistake proofing concepts were introduced from the source, supported by visualized workflows, task decomposition, and the deployment of assistive devices, adjustable fixtures, and appropriate protective equipment. These measures significantly reduce physical workload and human error risks for middle aged and senior employees, while enhancing overall operational safety and product quality stability.
In addition, GlobalWafers combined technological integration with industry academia collaboration to further optimize workplace design. By introducing AI based image recognition systems, automated warehousing solutions, and AGV autonomous vehicles, manual handling and transportation burdens were reduced. GlobalWafers also collaborated with National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University to evaluate shift arrangements, sleep quality, and work adaptability from an occupational health perspective, using these insights to continuously refine work design and management practices. In terms of occupational health management, proactive source reduction and substitution measures for chemical usage were implemented. IPA was replaced with alcohol in 5S cleaning processes, effectively reducing long term chemical exposure risks and demonstrating the Company’s strong commitment to employee health and safety.
These comprehensive initiatives have delivered measurable results. Over the past six years, the proportion of middle aged and senior employees has steadily increased. This clearly demonstrates that friendly employment practices and health oriented job design effectively enhance employee retention and organizational stability, laying a solid talent foundation for long term corporate sustainability. Looking ahead, GlobalWafers will continue to deepen its friendly workplace initiatives, fostering a safe, respectful, and supportive working environment, and working together with employees to advance sustainable development that benefits the Company, society, and its people.
