GlobalWafers continues to integrate climate action into its corporate operations and long-term development strategy. Through expanded renewable energy adoption, enhanced energy efficiency, process optimization, and carbon reduction management across its global operations, the Company is steadily advancing its low-carbon transition, with its achievements also recognized by external assessments. In June 2026, CommonWealth Magazine held the “1.5°C Corporate Carbon Reduction Forum and Certification Ceremony,” where it announced the latest results of its Temperature Rising Index for Pathways (TRIPs) and recognized companies whose decarbonization pathways align with the temperature goals of the Paris Agreement. GlobalWafers was rated “Below 1.6°C” and “Outstanding Performance,” with an assessment result of 1.542°C, demonstrating the Company’s continued efforts in climate governance and carbon reduction.

The Temperature Rising Index for Pathways (TRIPs), jointly established by CommonWealth Magazine and Tunghai University, is a public assessment platform that evaluates Taiwanese companies’ carbon reduction progress and temperature-rise pathways. Through science-based tools, the platform helps companies evaluate the alignment between their decarbonization commitments and implementation progress. Its assessment methodology categorizes companies based on their carbon reduction targets and current performance, compares their decarbonization pathways with international climate science models, and estimates the projected global temperature increase associated with each company’s emissions pathways through the end of this century. This year’s forum brought together representatives from more than 80 companies across the technology, manufacturing, financial, and service sectors to discuss how enterprises can use science-based management to track carbon reduction progress, strengthen climate governance capabilities, and move toward net-zero emissions.

With net-zero emissions by 2050 as its long-term direction, GlobalWafers continues to strengthen climate governance and carbon reduction management, while aligning its decarbonization targets with international climate standards. In 2026, the Company’s greenhouse gas reduction targets were validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), marking concrete progress in GlobalWafers’ science-based approach to carbon reduction management. In terms of energy transition, GlobalWafers has also brought forward its Group-wide target for 100% renewable energy use from 2050 to 2040, and has set interim milestones of 35% by 2030, 55% by 2035, and 100% by 2040.

To increase the share of renewable energy use, GlobalWafers’ global sites are gradually advancing energy transition based on local energy conditions through self-built solar power plants, power purchase agreements, and the purchase of renewable energy certificates. Among these efforts, Danish subsidiary Topsil has commissioned its self-built solar power plant and become the Group’s first semiconductor crystal growth facility powered entirely by self-generated renewable electricity, serving as an important demonstration site for the Group’s green manufacturing and renewable energy transition. Looking ahead, GlobalWafers will continue to anchor its efforts in “Responsible Growth,” deepen climate governance, improve energy efficiency, and work with customers, suppliers, and stakeholders to foster a more resilient and competitive sustainable semiconductor value chain.
〈GlobalWafers Recognized with CommonWealth Magazine’s 1.5°C Climate Target Badge, Continuing to Advance Low-Carbon Transition〉這篇文章最早發佈於《GlobalWafers Co., Ltd.
GlobalWafers Co., Ltd. (GlobalWafers) is guided by its philosophy of “Responsible Growth,” and its greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction targets have been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), demonstrating that its decarbonization pathway is aligned with the global 1.5°C climate goal and supports its continued progress toward achieving net-zero emissions across its entire value chain by 2050.

Science‑Based Emission Reduction Targets: Driving Net-Zero Transformation Across the Value Chain

The Science Based Targets initiative is an internationally recognized framework for low-carbon transition, designed to assist corporations and organizations in setting GHG reduction targets in line with the latest climate science. Its standard framework ensures that corporate decarbonization targets are aligned with the decarbonization pathway of the Paris Agreement, supporting efforts to limit global warming to within 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.

Regarding near-term targets, GlobalWafers commits to reducing absolute Scope 1 and Scope 2 GHG emissions by 63% by 2035 from a 2022 base year. For Scope 3, GlobalWafers focuses on three primary emission sources: “Purchased Goods and Services” (Category 1), “Capital Goods” (Category 2), and “Fuel- and Energy-Related Activities” (Category 3). GlobalWafers commits to reducing absolute GHG emissions from these categories by 37.5% by 2035 from a 2024 base year. In terms of long-term targets, GlobalWafers commits to reducing absolute Scope 1 and Scope 2 GHG emissions by 90% by 2050 from a 2022 base year. GlobalWafers also commits to reducing absolute GHG emissions across all Scope 3 categories by 90% by 2050 from a 2024 base year, and to achieve net-zero emissions across the entire value chain by 2050.

Extending decarbonization across the entire value chain requires companies to integrate their global operations and upstream and downstream supply networks, while advancing decarbonization transformation through long-term governance and systematic action. GlobalWafers will continue to follow the standards of the Science Based Targets initiative, deepen decarbonization management across the entire value chain, and collaborate with supply chain partners to advance GHG reduction action, strengthening the climate resilience and sustainable competitiveness of the overall value chain.

Driving Low-Carbon Transition: Deepening Operational Decarbonization and Value Chain Collaboration

GlobalWafers continues to advance its low-carbon transition, implementing decarbonization strategies across both operations and the value chain. In terms of internal operations, GlobalWafers promotes green manufacturing through process optimization and equipment upgrades, including replacement of high-efficiency equipment, adoption of heat pump technology, and process redesign, combined with improvements in energy efficiency, deployment of low-carbon technologies, and optimization of resource circularity, to reduce carbon emission intensity per unit of product. In parallel, GlobalWafers is expanding the use of renewable energy through multiple approaches, including the development of on-site solar power installations, the signing of long-term Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), and the procurement of Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs). These efforts are steadily increasing the share of renewable energy across GlobalWafers’ global operations, supporting its commitment to achieving 100% Renewable Energy (RE100) across all global production sites by 2040. Furthermore, GlobalWafers has established an internal carbon pricing mechanism and supports natural carbon sinks and engineered carbon capture to enhance climate risk and opportunity management, strengthening overall operational resilience.

For value chain decarbonization, GlobalWafers has established a raw material supplier tiered management mechanism. This initiative encourages suppliers to conduct product carbon footprint inventories and obtain third-party verification. GlobalWafers also invites major emissions-intensive suppliers to commit to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and continuously tracks suppliers’ decarbonization pathway plans and execution progress. Meanwhile, the Company collaborates with key value chain partners to deepen decarbonization engagement and gradually expand the impact of its GHG reduction efforts across the entire semiconductor value chain.

Doris Hsu, Chairperson of GlobalWafers, stated: “GlobalWafers’ GHG reduction targets have been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative, confirming that the Group’s decarbonization pathway is aligned with internationally recognized climate science standards. In response to the global trend toward net-zero transition, We will continue to deepen green manufacturing and strengthen value chain collaboration, steadily advancing toward its GHG reduction targets.

In recent years, ESG has become an essential benchmark for evaluating corporate resilience and sustainable development. Facing the dual challenges of energy transition and climate change, governments worldwide have introduced energy-saving and carbon-reduction policies. Beyond meeting regulatory requirements, companies must also take concrete actions to improve their environmental performance. As one of the world’s top three semiconductor wafer suppliers, GlobalWafers fully recognizes the critical role of green transformation in sustainable growth. Accordingly, the company has been promoting energy efficiency improvements and equipment replacement projects across its production sites to gradually reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions.

At the Taisil branch, most facility and crystal-growing equipment has been in operation for nearly 30 years since the plant was established in 1995. Although well maintained, prolonged use has inevitably led to declining efficiency, creating a noticeable gap compared with new-generation high-efficiency equipment. To ensure energy efficiency in operations and advance green manufacturing, the company launched a large-scale energy-saving equipment upgrade project.

This project covers several key equipment upgrades:

Air Compression System – Three aging 200-horsepower fixed-speed screw compressors were replaced with a single 580-horsepower variable-speed screw compressor. The new system automatically adjusts operating speed based on demand, reducing unnecessary energy consumption.

Chilled Water System – Outdated fixed-speed chillers were replaced with ceramic oil-free variable-speed centrifugal chillers. This single upgrade alone delivers annual savings of over 3 million kWh of electricity and more than 1,500 tons of CO₂e reduction, yielding highly significant results.

Boiler System – A 580kW variable-speed two-stage screw compressor heat pump replaced the traditional natural gas boiler, cutting fuel consumption, improving energy conversion efficiency, and reducing carbon emissions.

Crystal-Growth Power Supply – SCR-controlled power modules were upgraded to IGBT-controlled modules, offering faster response and more precise control. This not only improves energy efficiency but also enhances the stability and yield of the crystal growth process.

Through this project, the Taisil branch is achieving the following annual outcomes:

Electricity Savings – 4,707,799 kWh saved annually, equivalent to the annual electricity use of about 1,130 households.

Carbon Reduction – 2,826 metric tons of CO₂e emissions reduced annually, equivalent to the carbon absorption capacity of 7.3 Daan Forest Parks (a 26-hectare urban park in Taipei, Taiwan) in one year.

This initiative not only reduces energy consumption and carbon emissions in operations but also demonstrates the company’s commitment to embedding ESG principles into green manufacturing. By upgrading equipment and optimizing energy efficiency, GlobalWafers further strengthens its sustainable competitiveness, establishes a best-practice model for cross-site knowledge sharing, and advances the semiconductor industry toward a low-carbon future.
〈GlobalWafers Taisil Branch Implements Energy-Efficient Equipment Upgrades
Saving 4.71 Million kWh and Reducing 2,826 Tons of CO₂e Annually〉這篇文章最早發佈於《GlobalWafers Co., Ltd.

As the world faces the challenges of climate change and resource sustainability, green manufacturing has become a key direction for industrial development. Against this backdrop, GlobalWafers continues to deepen its commitment to green manufacturing and has recently implemented a smart wire-break detection system in its slicing machines. This system enables real-time monitoring and anomaly prevention, which not only facilitates the smooth advancement of fine-wire slicing process development but also effectively reduces industrial waste generation and lowering carbon emissions, demonstrating the Company’s dual commitment to smart manufacturing and sustainable development.

To improve material utilization, reduce industrial waste, and advance environmental sustainability, GlobalWafers has promoted fine-wire slicing technology. However, in wafer processing, wire breaks in slicing machines often cause roller groove deformation, leading to ingot scrap and raw material waste. Traditional mechanical sensors lacked sufficient sensitivity to detect wire breaks immediately and halt operations, and current sensor would also be affected by cutting water, resulting in persistent material losses.

GlobalWafers’ newly adopted smart wire-break detection system incorporates an acoustic emission sensor in addition to existing mechanisms. By monitoring acoustic signals in real time, the system can rapidly identify wire break events and instantly trigger machine responses, significantly shortening reaction times. This innovation effectively resolves the limitations of traditional sensors, reducing ingot losses and equipment damage while advancing the Company’s waste- and carbon-reduction goals.

The project has delivered three major benefits:

Reduced Scrap: Yield recovery rate from 20% to 80% following a wire breakage, significantly lowering wafer scrap and material waste.

Zero Waste: The multi-wire slicing station, which previously produced an average of 13.3 tons of cutting oil waste each month, has now achieved zero output after adopting the fine-wire slicing process.

Carbon Reduction: Annual CO₂ emissions have been reduced by 19.6 tons.

This system not only enhances process stability and reliability but also effectively minimizes resource waste and contributes clear environmental benefits, underscoring the GlobalWafers dual-track commitment to smart manufacturing and sustainable development.
〈GlobalWafers Advances Smart Wire-Break Detection to Achieve Zero Waste and Enhance Process Efficiency〉這篇文章最早發佈於《GlobalWafers Co., Ltd.

GlobalWafers places great importance on environmental management and continues to upgrade facility operations through technological innovation and process optimization. The Zhunan Plant II recently launched the “Gallium-Containing Wastewater Diversion and Recycling Project,” representing a new milestone in the company’s efforts to strengthen pollution control and resource reuse.

In line with sustainable development strategies, the project team adopted a dual approach combining source reduction and end-of-pipe collection to promote waste reduction and resource circulation. Gallium dust generated during production is first captured through dust collection systems, preventing it from entering downstream cleaning processes. Wastewater samples are then analyzed to determine concentration distributions. High-concentration gallium wastewater is diverted and collected separately for performance testing and treatment by qualified recycling partners, while low-concentration wastewater is managed by the plant’s treatment facilities to reduce system load and ensure stable compliance. Through processes such as chemical coagulation and electrolysis, the external partner not only treats the wastewater effectively but also recovers gallium metal of economic value.

This model has significantly enhanced the plant’s processing efficiency while ensuring effective cost control. The project’s demonstrates positive benefits. It is expected to deliver stable cost savings of approximately NT$250,000 per month, equivalent to about NT$3 million annually. This not only shows a substantial improvement in operational efficiency but also provides tangible economic returns.

By implementing this project, GlobalWafers has moved beyond the traditional model of relying solely on centralized treatment. Supported by data-driven verification, active collaboration with capable partners, and the establishment of a diversion management system, the initiative not only reduces treatment burdens but also ensures effluent quality consistently meets the park’s regulatory standards to reduce environmental impact , while creating added value through resource recovery. This practice highlights the company’s ability to balance environmental compliance, resource circularity, and economic performance, and it provides a replicable model for other plants to further reinforce the sustainability and resilience of overall operations.
〈GlobalWafers Zhunan Plant II Implements Gallium-Containing Wastewater Diversion and Recycling to Enhance Environmental Management and Resource Efficiency〉這篇文章最早發佈於《GlobalWafers Co., Ltd.

GlobalWafers is committed to energy conservation, waste reduction, and resource circulation, actively implementing green manufacturing practices and continuous sustainability initiatives. Recently, the company introduced an acid recycling mechanism at the production level. Through system redesign and process optimization, the initiative enables the reuse of acids, effectively reducing both waste treatment and fresh acid consumption costs while demonstrating the company’s concrete actions in implementing the concept of sustainability through green manufacturing and advancing ESG development.

In the past, when certain equipment was shut down, acids with remaining usable value inside the machines were often discharged directly to the wastewater treatment facility. The resulting waste liquids and sludge were classified as industrial waste, leading to additional treatment costs and environmental burdens. To address this issue, the company redesigned the recovery pipelines, channeling the spent acid into recovery buffer tank. Once the equipment restarts, the stored liquid is fully reintroduced into the production process. A quality monitoring system ensures that the recycled acid consistently complies with process standards, allowing for safe, stable, and efficient reuse.

Since its implementation, the project has already delivered significant results. Estimates show a reduction of approximately 934 kilograms of waste sludge each month, equivalent to an annual decrease of 11,208 kilograms. This achievement not only alleviates the pressure on waste treatment systems but also generates three key benefits:

Environmental: Lower discharge of waste liquids and sludge, reducing the load on treatment facilities and mitigating environmental impact.

Operational: Reduced consumption of fresh acid and lower disposal expenses, creating cost savings.

Sustainability: Reinforces the company’s commitment to green manufacturing and environmental responsibility.

This recycling mechanism represents more than the optimization of a single process and has the potential to be extended across similar equipment within the group. Looking ahead, GlobalWafers plans to broaden the application of this technology and further explore waste liquid regeneration methods and acid life-cycle monitoring. These efforts will allow for more precise tracking of acid usage, longer service life, higher recovery rates, and ultimately the circular economy goal of minimizing waste generation and maximizing resource circulation.

Through this recycling mechanism, GlobalWafers once again demonstrates its strong commitment to environmental stewardship and contributes to the green transformation of the semiconductor industry. The company will continue refining its processes, improving efficiency, and building a high-performance, low-carbon, and sustainable manufacturing model, working alongside global customers and partners to create a more competitive and sustainable future.
〈GlobalWafers Introduces Acid Recycling Mechanism to Reduce Waste Emissions and Enhance Circular Efficiency〉這篇文章最早發佈於《GlobalWafers Co., Ltd.
