The Miaoli Branch of the Genesis Social Welfare Foundation has been deeply rooted in the local community for many years and, as of December 2025, currently provides long-term care for 63 patients in a vegetative state and individuals with severe disabilities. For residents who are unable to move independently, every bath, repositioning, or transfer relies on caregivers manually lifting and moving them. This not only places significant physical and technical demands on caregivers, but also poses potential risks to residents, including joint strain, muscle pain, and even falls. To uphold the dignity of care—ensuring residents are not merely carried, but moved smoothly and safely—and to reduce occupational injuries among caregivers, the facility urgently needed to introduce a ceiling-mounted transfer system to enhance overall care quality and safety.

Sino-American Silicon Products Inc. (SAS) and GlobalWafers Co., Ltd. (GWC) have long been committed to promoting ESG sustainability initiatives and have supported the Genesis Social Welfare Foundation Miaoli Branch for four consecutive years. With the collective support of the Group and its employees, management led colleagues to personally visit the facility and present a donation of NTD 300,000 on November 26. The funds will be specifically designated for the procurement of a ceiling-mounted patient transfer system, reflecting our shared commitment to care and community support. With the installation of this system, caregivers can use simple remote controls to perform lifting and transfer operations, making the demanding caregiving process smoother and safer, and ensuring that residents no longer experience fear during transfers.

7,000 Steps a Day for Health and Charity

Modern lifestyles often lead to health challenges such as obesity and metabolic syndrome, especially with sedentary office work taking a toll on health. To counteract these health risks, GlobalWafers designed a 7,000-steps daily challenge—an achievable yet motivating goal—to help employees develop regular exercise habits.

During the 13-week health challenge, employees were encouraged to walk 7,000 steps daily. For each day an employee met the goal, GlobalWafers donated NT$1 to charity. A total of 401 employees participated, with 253 successfully achieving the challenge, logging 16,451 days of goal achievement. This effort raised NT$16,451, which, with an additional donation from the company, totaled NT$20,000. The entire amount was donated to the Syin-Lu Social Welfare Foundation’s Early Intervention Center in Hsinchu City, providing meaningful support for children in need.

Diverse Activities Promote a Culture of Workplace Health

The event featured a variety of engaging activities to enhance health awareness in a fun and interactive way:

• 7,000 Steps Challenge: Participants tracked their steps via the Google Fit app, earning points for achieving the daily goal, which could be exchanged for prizes.
• Online Health Questionnaires: Three health-related questionnaires allowed employees to earn points by answering correctly.
• Aerobic Exercise Classes: 12 in-person classes and 1 online session were offered to strengthen employees’ physical fitness.
• Physical Fitness Assessments: Two professional fitness testing sessions were held to help employees better understand their personal health status.

Employees not only improved their health but also earned participation prizes and qualify for raffle entries through accumulated points, fostering enthusiasm and encouraging a healthier lifestyle.

Partnering with Syin-Lu Social Welfare Foundation to Brighten Children’s Futures

Headquartered in Hsinchu, GlobalWafers is committed to giving back to the local community. All charitable donations from the company were directed to the Syin-Lu Early Intervention Center, the only institution in Hsinchu providing daytime services for children with developmental disabilities. Guided by the principle “As normal as possible, as special as necessary,” the center creates individualized training goals to support children’s progress in learning and daily life.

GlobalWafers’ donations will be used for teacher training, equipment upgrades, and facility improvements, creating a better learning environment for the children. The Syin-Lu Social Welfare Foundation expressed their gratitude with a certificate of appreciation and shared a picture book created by its early intervention children, showcasing their progress and achievements, which deeply touched all the employees.

In 2023 and 2024, GlobalWafers invested NT$5 million respectively, contributing a total of NT$10 million over two years to support the Paul Chiang (江賢二) art promotion plan and the construction of the “Paul Chiang Art Center.” The funds from GlobalWafers not only support both the software preparation and hardware construction for the “Paul Chiang Art Center” but also assist the foundation in organizing various exhibitions and exchange activities. The goal is to attract both domestic and international artists and visitors to gain a deeper understanding of Taitung’s natural and cultural heritage while bringing sustainable cultural and economic values to the local community. To promote public participation in art and cultural activities, GlobalWafers sponsored the “2023 Paul Chiang Solo Exhibition” held at the Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts (from December 2, 2023 to March 10, 2024), which attracted 72,006 visitors during the exhibition. In 2024, GlobalWafers further introduced art within the company by setting up permanent art exhibitions in its office areas, allowing employees and visiting guests to engage with art during daily work and interactions, experiencing the power of aesthetics.

The renowned Taiwanese artist Paul Chiang (江賢二) is known for his abstract works. Having lived in Paris and New York for 30 years, Mr. Ciang moved to Taitung in eastern Taiwan in 2008, where the local natural landscape inspired his creative energy. This led to the creation of the ” Paul Chiang Art Center,” which integrates art and architecture with Taitung’s natural beauty. Located in Jinzun, Taitung, the art center is expected to be completed and open to the public in the spring of 2025. The park will combine art, architecture, and natural landscapes, becoming an important venue for promoting aesthetic education and contemporary art. GlobalWafers’ funding not only supports the construction of the art center but also aids the various exhibitions and exchange activities organized by the foundation. The goal is to attract domestic and international artists and the public to explore the natural and cultural aspects of Taitung, integrating art into local life and injecting sustainable cultural and economic value into the local community.

This year, GlobalWafers has further enriched the artistic atmosphere within the Company by displaying classic replica works from Paul Chiang’s Taitung period at its Hsinchu headquarters and Taisil Branch. These include works such as Pisilian, Mountain Range of Taiwan, and Afternoon of the Faun, which focus on nature, light, and color. These artworks enhance the Company’s internal environment with bright and vivid energy. In Taiwan, up to 926,000 children are hospitalized for consultations each year, meaning that, on average, one in every 20 children has been admitted to a hospital. During their hospital stay, as both children and patients, they are in a doubly vulnerable position. If this experience is not carefully handled, it could become a trauma that impacts them for life. Out of concern and responsibility, GlobalWafers, through a performance project with the Red Nose Care Clown Association at hospitals in the Hsinchu area, works to support these hospitalized children. Through the clowns’improvisational performances, music, and games, the medical clowns interact with young patients, bringing them laughter and healing.

GlobalWafers recently launched an internal fundraising campaign to support the Red Nose Care Clown Association’s “Hsinchu Hospital Performance Project,” in collaboration with National Taiwan University Hospital Hsinchu Branch and Mackay Children’s Hospital in Hsinchu. This initiative aims to bring laughter to children’s outpatient clinics and wards, transforming the hospital from a cold environment into one filled with joy, giving children back a piece of their childhood.
The fundraising goal was $300,000 TWD, and thanks to the enthusiastic participation of employees, a total of $312,800 TWD was raised.

Summary

Through this charitable fundraiser, GlobalWafers is supporting the Red Nose Care Clown Association’s performance project at hospitals in the Hsinchu area, transforming employees’ kindness into laughter for around 560 children. Emotional well-being is especially crucial for physical and mental health, and these joyful experiences provide them with healing strength, while also easing the anxieties of their family members in the hospital.

Increased Participation and Impact

The 2024 Beach Cleanup event achieved remarkable success, with 119 participants—30% more than last year. The cleanup area expanded by 5%, and the total weight of collected trash increased by 3%. Behind these achievements were the sweat and dedication of every participant who braved the scorching 32°C heat. Whether walking across sinking sand or climbing uneven tetrapods, everyone worked tirelessly and focused on collecting marine debris, striving to rejuvenate the beach.

Commitment to Environmental Conservation and Inspiring Actions

For years, GlobalWafers has actively adopted and maintained the coastline at Longfeng Fishing Harbor while promoting environmental protection initiatives. Through the Beach Cleanup event, GlobalWafers encourages employees to take practical steps toward environmental conservation. This year, special emphasis was placed on the importance of reducing plastic waste. Participants were asked to focus on collecting marine plastic debris, aiming to raise awareness about the need to reduce plastic and minimize waste. By sharing their unique experiences, participants can inspire their friends and family to take action and join efforts to protect the marine environment.

The Beach Cleanup event is not only an environmental action but also a profound connection with nature. As participants look back at the footprints they’ve left, they see a cleaner beach and feel a sense of accomplishment. In the future, GlobalWafers will continue to spearhead more environmental protection initiatives , leveraging its corporate influence to bring more positive impact to the society.

In society, there are many disadvantaged and impoverished children and adolescents whose potential for social participation and development is limited by factors such as wealth disparities, rural constraints, and a lack of career opportunities.
Out of a profound concern and sense of responsibility for addressing these needs, GlobalWafers, through World Vision Taiwan’s youth development service project, is collaborating to help unleash the potential and interests, cultivate confidence and creativity, broaden horizons, and encourage early career exploration among the 900 children from economically disadvantaged families served by the Miaoli Center.

The program aims to help children explore their interests through activities, develop their skills, and gain a better understanding of their options for future career development. It is planned to offer a variety of courses to provide disadvantaged children with diverse learning opportunities, enhance their expertise in various fields, and unleash their potential. At the same time, it will provide performance opportunities for children to build their confidence.
The fundraising goal was set at $300,000, and with the enthusiastic support of employees and the company’s assistance, a total of $300,000 was raised.

Children and adolescents living in poverty and isolated area often face limitations in career development due to a lack of educational resources.
